Solar Energy: Does Anyone Have A Good Recommedation For Investing In Solar Energy And Future Energy Companies? (7/8/2011)

in Solar Energy

So does anyone have any good companies to buy stock in that are centered around solar energy?

I’m very intrigued by the idea of investing into a company that is focusing in on energy sources like solar and fuel cells. Even fusion if possible. I know this sounds idealistic to some, but I’m trying to think ahead of the immediate future. This is an academic question with an idea of investing in a company like this for the long haul. I’m talking about a 10 to 30 year committment and not a quick profit.

it all depends in which country you live in or willing to invest.

Generally, the area in which you are interested is capital intensive, with low return – ROCE.

there are different sectors with very high growth where you can put your head and money.

This is a very good question. This is defiantly the way of the future. High energy prices will make this type of energy production viable even without government help. Unfortunately I have not found many companies that look solid at this time, and most traditional investment advisers lack vision to give good advice.
I have found a couple that are worth investing in. But do not take just my advice do more research. This, if done right, I believe is the best time to start investing in Alt Energy.
One company I like is (I think the name is) Solar Edison, they are in the New York/New Jersey area.
A mutual fund I like is Portfolio21 (PORTX).

Get into the ETFs that focus on ” alternative energy”
A couple of them are : PBW and GEX
They should show decent returns in the next 6 to 9 months…and as a long-term hold, they just make a lot of sense. Germany and other parts of Europe and even China are snapping up alternative energy sources.

If you’re talking about a 10 to 30 year commitment, then you don’t want to invest in individual stocks. What you need is a mutual fund. Ask yourself why you want to invest specifically in solar energy. Do you have some kind of vested interest? It may seem the wave of the future but everything moves in cycles. Just look for mutual funds that have proven records and highest returns.
