Do you get irritated by Christians, who think they “know” The Big Bang?

in Solar Lights

The BB says nothing about “Time Zero”; what happened at the beginning or what started it, it only deals with about 10^ -45 second, that’s 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 seconds. Most of you think it says how the Universe started, but it doesn’t. Another proof of it is Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR) shown by the WMAP satellite, which shows the Microwave spectrum of the Electromagnetic Spectrum(Which includes Light) as being symmetric(on large scales) within a fraction of a degree(Which is good; if it were completely symmetric, everything would be the same. we would not exist.) And it did not just spew out planets, stars and galaxies, it took about 8 billion years for our solar system to even form. I suggest you look up “The Big Bang” Wikipedia is Ok, but to get all of the answers, read a science book.

And please don’t come back with “Its only a theory”. A SCIENTIFIC THEORY is an explanation or model based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning, especially one that has been tested and confirmed as a general principle helping to explain and predict natural phenomena.

Any scientific theory must be based on a careful and rational examination of the facts. A clear distinction needs to be made between facts (things which can be observed and/or measured) and theories (explanations which correlate and interpret the facts.) A fact is something that is supported by unmistakable evidence.

Facts may be interpreted in different ways by different individuals, but that doesn’t change the facts themselves.

Theories may be good, bad, or indifferent. They may be well established by the factual evidence, or they may lack credibility. Before a theory is given any credence in the scientific community, it must be subjected to “peer review.” This means that the proposed theory must be published in a legitimate scientific journal in order to provide the opportunity for other scientists to evaluate the relevant factual information and publish their conclusions.

This does not make any sense. Are you explaining something or asking a question? Whichever, the ‘Big Bang’ cannot be explained due to the fact that it is impossible for something like that to happen. I mean sure you can have you 1 to the power of whatever number, but it’s still not possible. And it is a theory, It cannot be proven. Whatever explanation you give will always have some fatal flaw in it. So yeah, you can’t ‘know’ the ‘Big Bang’.

“…Do you get irritated by Christians, who think they “know” The Big Bang?…”

No I don’t; not at all. There’s a very old saying that goes, “Ignorance is bliss.” I suspect that much of the ignorance evidenced by those Christians who deny the Big Bang, evolution, et. al. arises from their dread that such acceptance would threaten their faith. If I’m right then it seems clear that their faith isn’t as strong as they profess.

Irritation isn’t my usual response, no. Sometimes, depending upon their disposition, I will find it clownishly hilarious, or pitiable. I don’t buy that ignorance is bliss. The real world might not always be pretty, but it has its awe inspiring moments which exceed anything which can be mustered by our mythology.

Edit: by the way, I’ve found that a lot of Christians do, in fact, get it. It’s a fairly vocal, anti-intellectual minority that seems to deny it, at this point. As Richard B points out, the original hypothesis which would become the Big Bang Theory was the product of a Catholic priest by the name of Georges Lemaître. I might not share their mystical beliefs, but having them does not preclude a capability to be scientifically literate.

Nobody knows as much as they think they do on Y Q&A

the idea of expanding or contracting universe is implicit in Einstein’s General theory of Relativity
Einstein did NOT like it so he added a “cosmic constant” to make it balance to zero
A Roman Catholic priest in the Vatican Science department ( yes there is such a thing) pointed it out . Name started with “L” I think.
Hubble , the astronomer in the 1920s observed light from distant stars that suggested the “expanding Universe”, calculating backward leads to the Big Bang ”

Bible believers are threatened if anything seems to contradict literal interpretation
that was true in the 1600s when the suggestion that the earth was NOT the center of the universe was first suggested. It also bothered people when the idea of Ancient rocks and prehistoric was suggested in the 1700s, Darwin upset people when he suggested humans were a natural species of animal

we are only beginning to understand the universe

No, I don’t get irritated. I like hearing other people’s opinions to judge my own.

Irritating twits who know nothing yet pontificate profusely need not be confined to self proclaimed “Christians”.

There is more to the Big Bang that what you see in some gaudy “documentary” on the Hysteria channel.

The most analytical minds of the last century have amassed their expertise to construct the bb theory based on all available evidence. Unless new evidence is forthcoming to challenge it, the bb theory stands correct and verified and a monument to reason and logic.

Cheers!

I get irritated just as much by people who push the big bang theory as fact and make unture claims about it’s supporting evidence, such as the CMB temperature having been accurately predicted by big bang theorists before it’s discovery, when in actual fact their predictions were wrong (5°K to 50°K — they revised them AFTER it’s discovery).

I recommend people watch all parts of this documentary…

The Big Bang theory was first thought up by a priest.
Another priest proposed a theory of heredity.
On the other hand, scientists were burnt to dead by the church centuries ago.
So, I should not get irritated at all.

So what the heck is your question?

What I AM irritated by is the condescension on both sides.

I get irritated by Christians every time one tries to reason with me. I think back when Christians were stoning, murdering, and maiming non believers yet they have never done any wrong. Funny part is, I was raised as a Christian. I also remember going to different churches. Some were so strict, you didn’t ask the word why or they would shun you. Don’t get me wrong. I believe in a higher power. I stand humble and know that I, nor anyone on the face of this earth could come close to comprehending it. To worship as ANY religion on this planet would be like stepping back 2000 years ago and living by what some old peyote chewing, dope smoking illiterate old fool (prophet) said.

No, of course not. Every one has his/her owe faith.

I am more irritated if someone describes the Big Bang as an “explosion”.

It was not an “explosion”.
