…retarded, what should we do?
we called the authority’s the first time after we were sick of watching the boy terrorize the mother dog that belonged to the other neighbor’s. He would step on her as she tried to protect her babies and pick up the chickens by the tail… The police did nothing but talk to the aunt (I have no idea where the child’s parents are) and leave. Now he has ripped leaves off my plants, dug holes in my grass, and yesterday while we were at work he took my Christmas present from my guy (6 solar stake lights) and busted them up… My other neighbor witnessed the child doing it and tried to save as much as she could. There is a language barrier between myself and these PPl on top of it all. My bf is livid about it but I see a mentally handicapped child that is not supervised or nurtured. He is alone most of the day wandering around and grabbing himself. I want to be reimbursed but after nothing was done for the dogs by the authority’s I just wonder. continued on discussion board

Call on social services – this child may be considered as mentally retarded, difficult to live with and a lot of hard work – but that doesn’t absolve the parents of their parental duties. Parents of any child are expected to exercise some controls.
If this child destroys other people’s property – the parents should expect a bill – from ALL of the neighbours. Then the parents can see how much of a problem their child is creating.
I do not think you or your neighbours are doing this child any favours by simply ignoring this wanton desruction. You may get angry, but ultimately ignore it – but what is going to happen to this child as he outgrows his parents – they should be on-hand to supervise him, teaching him what is acceptable and what is not acceptable behaviour – repeating as needed.
just wondering how old this child is?
clearly he is not being cared for properly my aunty works with children who are mentally retarded and that is in no way an excuse for his actions. He isnt the one to blame but the once who are ment to be looking after him need to teach him right from wrong, if he is capable of doing this things then he is capable of learning its wrong.
i would report it to the police and not only report that he keeps damaging stuff but also report that he is mentally handicapped and isnt at all supervised and is allowed to run wild
I would call social services. It sounds like this child is not getting the care, supervision, or support needed. Obviously, he shouldn’t be allowed to terrorize the neighborhood, but more importantly, it sounds like he’s being neglected, or has very irresponsible parents at least.
in your area. I feel very badly for the boy, apparently the Aunt who has to work, does not know there are day-care programs ( or should be) in your area. CPS will no what is available for him. When they visit the home to assess the situation they will not give them your name.
It sounds like the Aunt needs some help with him, and maybe very grateful to know it is available. You should be able to find it in the yellow pages government section..if not call local Welfare office and they will be able to direct you. You are a good neighbor.
