Chavez / Venezuela to export gasoline to Iran
Sep 7, 7:04 AM (ET)
By ALI AKBAR DAREINI

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez sealed an agreement to export 20,000 barrels per day of gasoline to Iran, state TV reported Monday. The deal would give Tehran a cushion if the West carries out threats of fuel sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program.

The two countries signed the agreement late Sunday during a visit by Chavez, who pledged to deepen ties with Iran and stand together against what he called the imperialist powers of the world.

Congress looks to bolster Iran sanctions
The Associated Press

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 | 1:30 p.m.

Congress is taking up a bipartisan proposal which would give the Obama administration more leverage over Iran by toughening economic sanctions on foreign oil and shipping firms that aid Tehran.

A group of Democrats and Republicans introduced legislation Tuesday that would give the president expanded authority to crack down on companies that export gasoline and other refined petroleum products to Iran.

The Senate bill, which is expected to be mirrored by a similar House bill, is expected to pass because it has broad support from both Republicans and Democrats and is not opposed by the White House.

So my question is…Why are we allowing our government to set us up for failure?

Wind, solar. etc are fine as long term goals but for our own National Security, don’t we need to stop screwing around and Immediately begin a ‘moon shot’ effort to tap our own resourses both on and off shore???

Next to Nukes, (actually they’re interconnected) Isn’t this our top National Security challenge today?
@ Justine – I agree. Chavez owns CITGO. Here’s a balanced look at what that means to US. > http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/citgo.asp
@ Rod.. Yeah he’s been busy and we’ve been distracted.
@ Edg1 – Yeah this is one area where Obama has plenty of company. After 9 -11 I thought for sure people would wake up on this issue but that sure hasen’t happened. People can say what they want about Palin but she understands what this means to our National Security.

Its very obvious to most of us that the democrats have been backing us into an energy corner for decades now. And i believe it is by design to further weaken us on the world stage. It is utter insanity to allow countries like Iran and Venezuela to hold us hostage over oil when we have vast deposits of it here.

You should consider Chavez as the guy who’s planting incendiaries across both continents, from Chile and Argentina in the south, to Alaska in the north. He may be willing to sacrifice his allies in the US and Canada to achieve his goals; only one of which is the eradication of the US as a political entity.
