I am new to alternative energy. I have relatives in these countries i live in Colorado and others in California/Michigan/Texas or any other states.
We all saw an Inconvenient truth documentary and thought that we should start going green at our homes.

there are many guides available on amazon and other book stores online that can help you setting up solar energy at home. There are many videos guides available too.
Solar panels are not cheap but you can get them for cheap if you buy second hand solar panels.
The governement grants for solar panels are not available in all states.
Yes the new president is probably putting in more effort to promote alternate energy.
As far as energy requirement is concerned one of my friends is using solar energy at home and he generates around 7 KWH power from two set of solar panels.
I would suggest you start up with a single set of solar panels and see how it turns up, for you. You can make necessary additions later on.

You will want to make a combination of both systems for your house.
Just having 1 or the other isn’t such a good idea!
