Smart consumers are buying solar and believ in renewable enrgy. Solar is driven my consumer demand. Like mortgage deductions, and other allowable tax deductions, solar stimulates the economy and lowers taxes. The government isn’t handing out money for solar. Buying solar lower your tax bill. The incentives come from the powre companies because the lower cost distributed solar on people’s roofs help them. Why all the misinformation about solar? The JOB’s that will be creared are MARKET DRIVEN. people get tax deductions, that encourages the market. You get a deal on solar because you pai less taxes, you have free power eventually, the power companies get rerewewable, lower cost power for the neighborhood, from your roof. We use less OIl. Seems like a great plan for sustainability, less reliance on Oil, and taxpayer savings. Why do you think Renewable Energy and Solar Power is smart?

it is too expensive right now
If I act now, do I get a free solar-powered pocket calculator?
If the world can run on renewable come back to me. The market knows that solar power barely makes you break even. There MARKET is supposed to create demand not hippies or the government. If solar can reach the 1:10 energy efficiency come back to me.
Sounds good to me!
Solar is great if you live in the south where the sun shines. It will suck if you live in Michigan.
It is but explaining to some people is like someone in the early 1900′s trying to explain that horse and buggys are old technology and automobiles are will take their place. And I’m sure there were people who did not like the idea of the automobile either but it happened as will renewable energy and conservation.
No.
It is so expensive that you don’t make your money back before the panels need to be replaced.
The same is true for hybrid cars.
They are just toys for the rich.
Solar is great for homes on an individual basis. I have a system that provides 400 kilowatt hours/month (give or take). I could survive with out the power grid with a few sacrifices (PC, TV, dishwasher, etc). It has been a large investment though, about 20 grand over the last three years.
Fight the NWO!

Edit – @ my thumbs down – What does your solar system do?
There are two parts to this.
First of all I disagree that solar power is smart. Everything I have seen on solar power is that the equipment costs more then the savings you reap from it which is why it has to be subsidized in taxes. If it was a smart investment it would not require a tax deduction to remain viable in the market.
On the other hand, wind is cheap as far as the equipment and shows a net gain in savings over the cost of the equipment. Wind would actually be the SMART investment as far as being competitive.
It just does not work, it works only in the deluded minds of tree hugging Liberal Socialist Progressive Fascists. Solar sucks, coal is the true fuel, you’ll freeze your arse off in Minn. in January. Also N.Dakota, S. Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, New England, Delaware and 39 other states.
While solar along is not the answer right now it is a step in the Right Direction ask Japan how them Nuke Plants are working out for them that and nobody knows what to do with the Waste
It’s a good idea that’s not been developed fully. Until it is, it won’t be a major part of our energy needs. And I’m sorry, but the economic analysis you offered is gibberish.
Just about the only place solar power makes economic sense at this time is in Space.
It costs too much to change batteries there so a solar battery charger makes sense in that location.
The local handy-man store will sell you a solar cell power supply for your roof-top that will generate 80 watts of power and costs 160 dollars to buy. It will last for 5 years before needing replacement.
DUMB! – You do the math. It will never pay for itself. That doesn’t include the energy wasted to manufacture the device.
I believe we will someday come up with batteries that are good enough to power automobiles, but that day has not yet arrived.
Charging those batteries would best be accomplished with nuclear power plants. Wind and Solar won’t do the job.
