The total system cost will depend greatly on your application and power requirements. Have a look at these sites to get an idea for system costs for stand alone or grid tied solar energy systems:

One hundred fifty watts of solar panel will run you about 800 dollars.
That will light two light bulbs or run your TV or computer. Then you need a power inverter that can tie into your house wiring and the grid and turn the DC voltage into normal AC current; a 5 Kw inverter will run you a bit over $ 2000. It is not a cheap venture and until the utility companies or municipalities start investing in solar, it’s not very practical from a cost standpoint.
