You wish the governments could think that way, but unfortunately it will result in more crony capitalism, or governments taking advantage of it’s citizens for the purposes of obtaining more power.

They don’t come anywhere near the core. The most ambitious I’ve ever seen talked about involved 40 mile deep holes to reach the mantle and there is no way to dig such a hole today. The deepest we have ever dug is 7 miles in a Soviet experiment to study the interface between the crust and the mantle.
