If our tax dollars had been used to fund solar energy instead of nuclear power, wouldn’t we be better off now?

in Solar Power

Consider the hundreds of billions of dollars spent to subsidize the nuclear industry and the hundreds of billions that will have to be spent for all eternity to store the nuclear waste.

What if that money had been spent on the R&D of more efficient photovoltaic cells and a massive program to convert homes and industry to solar power?

Then we wouldn’t have depleted uranium.

Federal Funding created the photovoltaic cell industry, you are just to young to remember.

Sorry but you’re naive. I used to work for a solar company and guess what? An oil company bought it. Oil companies own all of the major solar companies. Why? So they can control it. If the government subsidized the R&D for solar they would be just giving a bunch of money to oil companies. Is that what you want?

The US spends very little on nuclear energy when compared to other industralized nations, believe it or not.

Billions spent to subsidize the nuclear industry? We haven’t built a nuclear power plant in 30 years.

There is new technology emerging that would use plasma to obliterate spent nuclear rods and waste, and turn it into energy, thus eliminating the storage of nuclear waste.

As for solar, with current technology, it is a very inefficient source, and probably not a very good investment if it hasn’t been heavily invested in already.

maybe, maybe not. the enviro nazi’s would come up with some reason we are harming the planet. nuclear is actually a very green technology. if the nimby’s would get out of the way of yucca mountain the storage problem would be solved and eventually transmutation technology may actually make the waste non-harmful or even reusable.

Then we would be putting exponentially more toxins in the air than we currently are due to increased use of coal and oil fired power plants as well as the less efficient nuclear plants…and still, solar and wind power prove much less efficient than nuclear.
