Do the type of solar trickle chargers that sit on the dash and plug into the cigarette lighter work? I always understood that modern cigarette lighters only allowed one-way flow of power? Not sure.

Many cigarette lighter sockets are switched off when the ignition switch is off. On those cars that have a full time sockets, a solar trickle charger won’t provide any measurable benefit unless the car is parked for months at a time.
