“we can’t drill our way out of the problem.” ” Drilling won’t affect the price for 5 years. ” So what is the democratic 5 year plan given the fact that there are a billion gasoline powered cars on the road right now, and millions of diesel powered trucks and trains right now, transporting our food to us?
How are you planning on phasing out the old technology if and when the new comes available?
I don’t understand why anyone would think it would be advantageous to a business to lease millions of acres of land from the government for billions of dollars just so they can sit on it and let it expire. That’s pissing money away, and that argument doesn’t make sense. Could it be they leased the land, explored it, and didn’t find anything to drill for? Far more likely.
How is a oil well any more damaging to the enviroment than a windmill? They are both man-made, quiet, and with a part that moves. Neither of them put out any pollution or CO2. Yes the refining process is filthy, but an oil well just sits there while an arm moves up and down. I’ve seen them in middle of cornfields, prairies and even in middle of shopping mall parking lots. People have them in their yards. An animal has to walk around a windmill the same as it does an oil well, and I’ve never seen an animal dumb enough that wouldn’t walk around it if it got in it’s way.

No, idiots will still pay the price of gas and end up spending 1,000,000 dollars worth when they can just drive a solar car.
What are you planning to do in 20 years when we have exhausted the US oil supply?
I have a very liberal friend and I posed this question to her. Her response: ” We need to invest in new technologies. We can’t drill our way out of this.” She’s an intelligent lady, but obviously has no plan but to oppose drilling.
Lets not forget stoves, home heating, etc. I’ve wondered about that myself. And just exactly who is going to pay for this major transition? The average person can’t afford to purchase everything new simply to appease the environmentalists.
Al Gore says 10. How is he gonna fly around in an electric jet? How many windmills to run his 20 room, 8 bathroom mansion?
No, it will probably take longer. However, when a Democrat (John Kennedy) said let’s put a man on the moon, it was accomplished in 8 years, using 1960′s technology. Why do the Republicans underestimate and refuse to fund the scientific community?
My plan: Put a five year expiration on current oil leases and permits. The companies are sitting on billions of gallons of crude, already, but they don’t drill and pump because it’s more convenient to import the oil and wait until that dries up before exploiting our own resources.
You create a false question. The Democrats aren’t against drilling and pumping. They’re against drilling and pumping in NEW AREAS WHEN THERE’S ALREADY AMPLE OIL IN EXISTING, PERMITTED AREAS.
The Reagan administration, as well as Bush, repealed and refused to upgrade requirements for greater fuel efficiency in cars. Why? The technology existed then and now to greatly upgrade in that area. That’s another area where government can step in. There’s a ton of options available that simply were never given priority or support, because doing so would cut into Big Oil profits, so their buddies in this administration and the Republican party made sure the technology wasn’t developed.
So, ignore the alternatives, completely, while giving huge subsidies to OLD technology, then, when it reaches a crisis, pretend we have no other choices?
Nonsense.
There will still be oil, drilled here and traded from other countries. Democrats just don’t see a need to ruin our natural beauty in order to temporarily buttress a technology that will eventually become obsolete anyway. Wind, solar, hydro-electric, nuclear, and bio-fuels are the energy sources of the future. We should invest in those instead of clinging to our old addiction to petroleum.
You have to stop waiting for the government to give you a solution. Governments never ever solve a problem. It never happened.
Oil is running out, it doesn’t matter how much is left. Move out to another source of energy or wait. It’s your choice.
Since it is obvious that drilling isn’t the answer. Why not be open to the many options available. Best to look and implement them now. Before we are faced with an even worse scenario. Don’t discount the possibilities.
