Solar Power: Has Anyone Installed A Solar Pool Pump? (4/12/2012)

in Solar Power

I was at a swimming pool convention and saw a solar pool pump that was powered by two photo voltaic panels and it seems like an incredible idea but I do not know anyone who has tried it was wondering if anyone had any experience good or bad with this type of pump photos here: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com/solar-pool-pumps.html
I think some people think I meant a whole solar system…this is a DC pump with no need for inverter and only two panels……

The best advice that I could give is to do some research.

By the time you add the cost of the panels, the DC converter and installation, not to mention the pump itself, it sounds like a pretty expensive unit. The time needed to break even on the savings of electric would be too long for me to even consider it.

There is a new product out there for 2011 that has 5 star reviews. It is a solar pool pump and filter.

Good luck!

Not a bad idea. Being solar powered it would turn off and on with the sun and not run water through the heating panels at night.

If you have a pool you already have a pump system and plumbing installed for filtering so a separate pump is redundant. And power for solar is still more expensive than off the grid except in the very long term.

People usually just run water off their existing pumps through panels for solar heating.
