Solar Power: Are Republicans Artificially Inflating Gas Prices? (4/19/2012)

in Solar Power

…to hurt Obama? The President’s administration does not set gas prices, the companies that produce it do. Nor does he have a major impact on the price of oil; the World Crude Oil Market does (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/fuel-consumption/gas-price.htm); (http://www.eia.gov/finance/markets/). Yet, he is continually blamed by his political opponents for the high gas prices. Simultaneously, he is accused of not doing anything to increase domestic fossil fuel production, when in fact he has done a great deal (including approved 485-mile southern leg of a pipeline from Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast, and approved dozens of other pipelines across the country; increased off-shore drilling while at the same time increasing safety; expanded on natural gas, solar, and wind power, etc.(http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/23/us/politics/in-oklahoma-obama-declares-pipeline-support.html) It seems awfully convenient for Obama’s opponents that the gas prices are coincidentally sky-rocketing, and in a way that have experts baffled.

Please provide a substantive response. That is, please do not answer only with “yes” or “no”, but rather please explain your response and support your conclusions. Thank you.
“realistic girl” and “Pragmatism Please” seem to see the point. I am not postulating that the Republican leadership is in fact doing this. But when the big oil and gas companies have such a substantial, vested interest in the Republican presidential candidates, and the candidates themselves publicly blame President Obama for the high gasoline prices (which any reasonable individual who understands the market knows is not true), it begs the question. Add to this, experts are raising eyebrows at the coincidental and largely unexplained hike in gas prices, the circumstantial evidence that the prices are being inflated at least in part as a political weapon is not only credible, but begins to approach compelling.

You guys are something! You complained about Bush not doing anything about gas prices then. Obama said in 2006, “The time for excuses is over.” Now suddenly, Obama can’t do anything about gas prices and Republicans are, somehow, artificially inflating gas prices to hurt Obama! LOL This is my favorite! Who was artificially inflating gas prices to hurt Bush–Obama?! LOL

Interesting. They have basically given the green light to oil companies to raise their prices and they are a very powerful lobby group…so it is a possibility.

Analyze the current situation of the global oil supply and the only possible conclusion is that speculators are driving up the price of crude. It’s simple math. There isn’t a shortage of oil. Capitalism at work, improving America…

(I’m not an Obama fan but when someone says he’s driving up the price, I wonder how their brain functions.)

By the way, oil companies do not set the price. Oil is a floating commodity. The market sets the price.

You seem to be suggesting that your man isn’t in charge.
