l c them in peoples’ yards but l don’t know how well it works. lf it gets it’s power from the sun, then how come there’s little batteries in it?

Yes, they work just fine. Some better than others. You get what you pay for.
They have batteries in them because they store the energy of the sun and charge the batteries during the day. That way the lights can be lit up at night when the light is needed and the sun isn’t available to activate the solar cells.
I have never seen any that work over 15 minutes at night. I had some Christmas tree lights, put them on my pine tree, and they did not work. Our neighbors had some and they did not work long either. They finally got rid of them.
