My set-up looks like this…
Solar panel
Rated power: 5w (per hour)
Rated voltage: 12.5 V
rated current: .40 A
Open circuit voltage: 15.6 V
Short circuit voltage: .45 A
10 – AA batteries
1.2 volt
900 mAh
I have the batteries wired in series so i can come up with the desired 12 volts I am looking for. But I am not sure if I this will charge the batteries at the same time? I’m hoping to set a small light or two to run off the batteries after dark and was planning on running that on a switch in parallel to the system. Will this work? Or do I need to change it to get a charge from the batteries?

Rechargeable AA batteries aren’t like car batteries. You can’t just put 12 volts to them and let them go. You need a charger made for whatever type of battery you’re using, nicad nimh etc, that’s made to plug into a cigarette lighter. Then you can just use the solar panel instead of the lighter socket to run it.
