in Solar Panel

Would it be cost effective to run just my central air on solar power?

Probably not. Depends where you live – your typical insolation.
Probably better to rebuild your house to use natural solar heating and cooling than to install a truckload of solar panels to run a typical 5000W central AC unit

Over a LONG period of time it would be. If you are willing to wait 30-40 years to recoup the savings after buying $ 12,000 in solar panels.

It doesn’t make much sense to dedicate the panels just to the A/C that isn’t used all the time. On cool days, the panels will be making power, and it will not be used. What a waste. Instead, you should install a grid-tied system that will make enough power to offset what the A/C uses, and make power to be used by other appliances when the A/C isn’t running. http://www.altestore.com/store/Kits-Package-Deals/Grid-Tied-Systems/AltE-Grid-Tied-Package-Micro3/p5673/
