Solar Turbines: Do U Think It Is Wrong To Use Nuclear Power Plant? (5/11/2012)

in Solar Turbines

Wind turbines and solar photovoltaic power plant are good for environment, but not powerful enough to make electricity for city. That is why we need nuclear power plant. But it is very dangerous, if it gets accident, many people will die from radiation. So Thermal Power Plant is better. It is safer and better than nuclear plant. But still it is bad for environment. So why don`t we use Hydro Power Plants? 70% of electricity in Brazil are from Hydro Power Plants.

no. France gets 80% of their energy from nuclear plants so why can’t we do the same? We’ve come a long way in technology since the 70s and France’s power plants are a lot safer and re-use the waste that is normally produced.
I’m giving you a advanced warning though if you research France’s nuclear power plants you’ll get raving mad at how we’re wasting so much time and money by not doing the same thing. I don’t think Hydro plants would work because we don’t have rivers everywhere to support them.In order for wind and solar power to work there needs to be backup power stations for when it’s not working ,so you guessed it. more coal plants would need to be built and in the long run it wouldn’t do any better than what we have now.

Yes I do because there is no such thing as “safe storage” of nuclear waste.

No I don’t.

just Google Chernobyl ,it happened in the 80s and will never be safe again, and the world should be aware they are not safe as it is still rady to blow again and be much much worse

There are not enough rivers to supply all the power in the USA, wind endangers bird that migrate. Nuclear is clean and we should have been building a dozen of them 20 years ago.

Its a lie that solar power and wind turbines are good for the environment. The compounds used to build either create huge amounts of pollution, as does disposal of them when they are worn out. The foot print of a high energy solar installation is massive and kills everything that lives there. Wind turbines kill birds by the thousands. Neither technology can be self sustaining without huge injections of taxpayer money. I used to do some engineering work in both fields and studied them in depth.

Nuclear power is not all that dangerous. The navy has been using it for many years without accident and the technology just keeps getting better. It is easier on the environment than any other technology you can come up with, including hydroelectric. Hydroelectric destroys huge tracts of land and causes droughts as well as killing off species that rely on the free flow of water. In addition, the US has tapped out almost all viable rivers, there is just no place to put more hydroelectric generators.

While nuclear waste is an issue that needs to be resolved, it is clearly the path to future energy resources.

No, it’s not wrong, just very costly. Nuclear power plants are very expensive to design, build, and operate, and to do so requires huge government subsidies (higher taxes). The costs are so high it is not profitable for a private utility to do so without huge government subsidy.

The Gulf won’t be good for much of anything for a while, maybe we ought to put huge wind farms out there.
I do think nuclear power plants are a practical idea, but the need to be put in uninhabited areas with their power put on a national grid system, that way, if there is an accident then it will cause the least damage.

Geothermal Plants are the way to go…

No.
“But it is very dangerous, if it gets accident, many people will die from radiation”
That is an exageration. From all the nuclear powerplant accidents so far, less than 100 people have died. Those were old designs. Newer reactors are extremely safe.
