I was riding Amtrack the other day, and we passed a long train of hopper cars withe some kind of ore. In each end of each car was a small solar panel. What would these be used for?

Well you got a rare glimpse at a ‘Ghost Train.’ They are trains that not even the train company knows where they are at all times, because they are being used to transport highly classified government cargo. The workers only report to a certain number of government agents who are in charge of the transport of highly sensitive cargo. Congratulations.
