Solar Energy: What Undergraduate Course Should You Take If You Want To Work With And Develop Cutting Edge Technology? (5/17/2012)

in Solar Energy

Hello, I enjoy sciences very much and am a very creative and imaginative person who would like to work with nanotechnology and other cutting edge technologies. Among the things I’d like to work with are solar panels and vehicles (not nnecessarily cars) that take advantage of solar energy as well as other types of energies. I’d like to invent things like those shown on “future world” (discovery channel). I am keen on robots and artificial iintelligence too. And I like researching and experimenting a lot, so I don’t picture myself always in an office. I am thinking of studying mechanical engineering, but I’m not completely sure.

I am a bright student and could in theory choose any university course and do well in it, however I have a profound passion for numbers and physics and I would like to “exploit” my huge imagination to create things that can help mankind overcome problems such as global warming.

Outstanding mind!!..
You know, I have all but the ideas you mentioned above.
I also have a great passion in learning how to discover cutting edge technology that can be applied in the future.
I don’t really have an advice for you,but now I take study in electronics engineering in one of reputable university in Indonesia.
I am still in my first year as university student.
When i was high school, I also got confused in determining the major I should take.
Among other lesson in school, I love physics so much, because I can explore my imagination and critical thinking in physics.
I decided to choose electronics engineering because, I think electronics world will never cease to create future technology of human being.

Well, it’s all my story , and i hope will give you a little bit picture.

Maths or Physics would be good.

Mech or Elec Engineering is OK, but if you can do Engineering / Physics or Engeering / Maths then better.

I’m a Mechanical Engineer and enjoy it, but it is a broad field. To do reseach and development (more interesting), you have to specialize beyond that into Aerospace, Astronautics, etc.

Actually, the BIG thing right now is Systems Engineering. We’ve always had the development skills, but effectively harnessing them has always been an issue. The Japanese have a good handle on this. I’d say focus on this because this is where the revolutionary thinking of the future will come. Everybody has ideas, but putting the right ones into motion will drive the future.
