I read wind mills require larger batterys becuase of the maintenance with cells, i watched a few youtubers post videos claiming they wished they got larger and fewer batteries
Then solar panels barely charge anything

If you have a stream close by, you could build a mini-hydroelectric plant with a fairly small investment.
enrgy efficient smart grid system help to avoid usage of batteries
Use various resources like cow dung and solar energy.
It depends on where you are. If it rains frequently,, solar is a bad idea. If the wind blows steadily, you might want a windmill. If there is an ocean beach, you might be able to use wave or tidal power.
In general, the easiest thing to install would be a greenhouse or trombe wall for heating.
Hi I am the owner of Mountain Wind & Solar http://mountainwindnsolar.com (please be aware that this website is still under construction).
Wind Energy does require bigger battery banks because it creates more electricity! usually solar panels don’t even need batteries all you have to do is hook your solar panels to your grid tie inverter and put the power in the house. Wind Turbines on the other hand need batteries because as the wind spikes and the turbine creates more energy the power would fry the Grid-Tie Inverter without the batteries to protect it.
Even though wind turbines need batteries they are still the better way to go because they create more power.
Solar Energy usually costs about $ 4/watt. a 260 watt system with installation costs $ 1,094.95 (just so you know wind turbines cost much less at only about $ 1.66/watt).
on the other hand Wind energy costs about $ 1.5/watt. a 1000 watt system can cost $ 1500.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. All technology needss capital and running costs.
In reality “free” energy is not really free. If you add up all the costs of a wind turbine or wave generator from the metal ore mine to the finished job, including transport and labour, you will find that the turbine (or whatever) cost more energy to make than it can generate in its economic lifetime but this is always ignored by politicians
The only really viable alternative energy I know is coppice wood which is endlessly renewable without any machinery but an ax, but the energy level would be low and the coppice required would be considerable even for one house. Even then you would need to convert the heat into electricity.
Solar panels are VERY efficient. My entire town house is run exclusively on solar and we are just like any other family with our technology usage.
