it is about putting a value on the use of “commons” – the environment on which we all depend for our well being and livelyhood.
traditionally companies pass their pollution onto the community and we pay the cost of health care and clean-up eg Bophal, Niger delta, Love canal
and big business takes resources, eg fish or forest, without replacing them for local people or future generations. eg somalia fishermen that have to turn pirate because global fishing fleets have cleaned them out.,
