The US, Oil and Green energy…What the heck?

in Solar Energy

So as most of you know, our (America’s) economy is circling the drain, crap.
No more flaunting those fancy new cars or dropping a thousand dollars in vegas… wait that still goes on? Ah nostalgic… I guess?
Any who, my point? Ah yes, so the US as we know is basically trying to scratch up as much Oil as it can, why? who knows! I mean besides the fact that we need that for ourselves (again Americans need it) for daily practices and what not.
But um…hello! We have the technology that allows us to still be on top, WITH a powerful economy and military all at once!
Surprise, surprise? no, not really. It’s a fairly simple concept really when you get hold of it.
My concept? Rid ourselves of oil, completely, there is no need to become a third world country! what with the lack of decent health care these days I mean (chuckles) hell, come on!
Anyways, so we rid ourselves of the oil and start producing BIO fuel, we shut down MOST oil producing plants and begin creating GREEN energy plants, we solve three things all at once – global warming (which is a scientifically proven fact now for those of you who didn’t know) we add hundreds of new jobs to the market and we bring in some much needed money to the economy. Simple right? wrong.
Hell with most of the US invested in foreign oil, I can see how this would be a tough nut shell to crack right? but I think it can be done!
Picture this: A good old black and white screen and thousands of american workers beginning to retrofit or demolish Oil plants and companies and beginning to construct, hydro electric plants, solar panel fields all across the mid west, maybe safer and cleaner nuclear power plants, WIND power, with vast fields of these out in the western territories, while the hydro electric plants power the east and west coasts right?
Moving onto the bio fuel, since we produce and refine corn at an alarming rate, we could easily turn those into… well bio fuel, the only problem i could see is a possible (and that’s a VERY slight chance) of a food shortage, but these days with our ports, really? a food shortage I very unlikely doubt that.
However, IF the government can say “Oil companies will now switch to green energy AND auto makers will now produce PURE electric cars” then things would be much simpler, I mean SURE our liberties would be lost but only FOR moment! I think it’s time we suck it up, and basically just think about our future and not be such narrow minded dogmatic…Americans!
As the dominant power of the world, our military is still unmatched but our government’s infrastructure is already collapsing along with our economy! Really, ridding ourselves of foreign oil would simply help US completely, starting new works like that in world war 2 when whole factories were converted into tank and airplane producing powerhouse could be done today!

It’s so simple, green energy, economy fixed and a stronger government and along the way we can have those health reforms right?
Well there’s my opinion, leave yours i’m curious, did I make any sense? is any of what I said possible?
This is pure creativity and curiosity, leave a comment/answer and thanks again! icon smile The US, Oil and Green energy...What the heck?

One major flaw with your plan, the govt doesn’t have power over energy companies, energy companies have power over our govt. They also control the media, which keeps “the people” on their side. Until we get enough people to wake up from being media zombies this can never even hope to begin to happen.

I do disagree with one key point in your plan, bio-fuels aren’t a viable option. It takes almost as much fuel to produce corn and refine it as you get in bio-fuel.
