Solar Producer: Can Andy Murray EVER Become No.1 World Ranking? (5/31/2012)

in Solar Producer

I am a fan of tennis in general for decades. For the last couple years, we have been talking about the four-horse race among Federer – Djokovic – Nadal – Murray. But can anyone tell me what you think about Murray being in discussion? I mean he is a GREAT player, but for the last few years he has not done enough to challenge the other 3 guys and has taken a back seat.
At this moment, Djokovic is trying to re-establish his domination from last year, Nadal is trying to get the momentum to take back the no.1 ranking, and Federer has been proving that his time is not over yet with recent wins. While that happen, Murray is still struggling to get to the final rounds of Grand-slam and even get ousted early in other tournaments. Is there gonna be a point when Murray make a turn around on this?

Head to head record:
5-12 vs. Nadal
8-7 vs. Federer
5-8 vs. Djokovic

He seems to be doing not bad against those guys, except for Nadal.
@Sundi: It suprise me as well, but he indeed has a winning record against Federer, but the issue is that he barely seeing Federer that much recently. With the seeding going in major tournament right now, Murray will see the No.2 Seed which is Nadal and look how bad of a record he has against Nadal. Also, the problem with Murray was that he keep failing to reach the final rounds of the tournament. So he probably beat Federer several times, but lost many more times to other players EARLY in other tournament.

I think he has a slight chance, but of anyone’s gonna dethrone the great Djokovic, I think it’d be Nadal.

Federer has been around the longest and is now older than the others therefore might not get his top game back in order to again be able to dominate Djokovic and Nadal.

Murray, never had the powerful, domineering game, at Federer’s age, in order to beat the Djokovic and Nadal.

Taking all of the above intro consideration it seems that the answer to your question is “No”.

I think Murray is more likely to win a couple of slams (which he would definitely prefer) then to becoming world number 1 in his career. Its too competitive on the mens tour to become number 1 without winning a couple of glands slams together. I cant see Murray winning 2 slams close together.

Are you sure your Head-to-head records are accurate? It doesn’t make sense that he has a winning record against Federer. If he did then he would have made more finals while Federer was ranked #1

i don’t think he’ll ever be No1 because he’s not consistent enough. you need to be at a level of excellence for a consistent enough time to be No1 that i don’t think murray is capable of. but i do think he could win a grand slam or two.
