Unfortunatly solar panels require massive amounts of energy to mine the silicone, ship it, and manufacture it.
so you see no matter how high the price of oil goes solar panels will always be more cost ineffective
this is the trajedy of the commons
If the oil companies owned the sun, the art of harvesting solar energy would be perfected and solar energy would probably be the only energy choice we have….and it would be expensive. They would have all the copyrights and it would be illegal for people to build their own.
@Folks: That is not at all the tragedy of the commons. =
In the united states the consumer is the director.
Many purchase what is convenient or what they can afford; oil.
Fortunately as more people lean towards alternative energy, it becomes more affordable.
People who are buying solar right now aren’t saving enormous amounts of power, but their purchases are moving the market to a place where alternative energy will.
