You don’t have to spend a lot on solar panels.
Its the cost of batteries and inverters thats gonna set you back.
Your not going to run a pump of any real size directly off a solar panel.

What are the amps and volts or wattage at what voltage?
How many hours will this 1/2 hp motor be running?
What is the startup surge of the motor?
What is the peak sun hours for your area?
If you could tell us that we might beable to give you an idea of what you need.
