Thin film technology is the future of solar energy. There’s a pretty good article about it here, which mentions a few good companies in this sector:

That depends on what type of solar energy you mean… There is Thermal Solar and there is Photovoltaic ( PV ). Thermal solar uses the sun to heat water or some other liquid to transfer that energy to a system that requires heat or simply so you can have hot water. There also thermal solar systems that generate electricity but they again use heat to turn water to steam or another heat usage method to turn a turbine or generator.
The PV panels is what most people think of when they think solar panels. A panel that converts photons into electrical energy. Most of the PV panels (~86%) out there use silicon based systems that are often costly to produce. Some of the new technologies have to the possibility to produce cheaper panels but that technology is more than 10 years out…
Thermal panels are distributed by many many companies. Here is a big one that does pool heating systems… check out their commercial systems.

You should take a look at the cost per kilowatt hour of solar power, it’s very high!
Then go to http://www.uspto.gov and enter patent number 5,430,333, there you will see a “utility” patent for a utility power plant that make NO pollution what so ever, it needs nor burns ANY fuel.
These power plants have a life span, well over 100 years, many times that of ANY fueled power plants, Because NO fuel needs to be bought to run these plants the cost per kilowatt hour is about 3 cents per hour.
Don’t you think pollution free electric power that costs far less is a much better idea ?
Write your all your elected officials state, local, and federal. Tell them you want pollution free electric power.
This is the ONLY source for electric power that’s totally pollution free.
These power plants can be built to provide far far more electric power than our current grid can handle.
The first generation “baby” power plants produce 1000 megawatts.
Plant Vogtle, the last Nuclear power plant built in the US only makes 930 megawatts.
Vogtle cost $ 10 billion, 30 years ago.
The power plants you will see at the patent office site cost $ 2.5 billion in todays money!
You have yet to see what the cost of disposal and clean-up costs are for Vogtle and all spent Nuclear fuel will be.
It costs MORE to clean up a Nuclear power plant site after it’s retired that to build it when new.
The spent fuel is 25,000 year storage problem that has NO solution as of yet.
I have seen where when the spent fuel and clean up cost is added your real cost for Nuclear power is over $ 50.00 per kilwatt hour.
How much over no one knows because no one can really estimate what 25,000 years of storage will cost!
How’s that for a real eye opener?
Coal fired power plants makes 8 lbs of air pollution to run a single100 watt light bulb for an hour!
There NO estimates for what it will cost to really handle all that air polltuion from burning the coal!
Are your eyes opened to just how much this electric problem could cost in the long run?
Call your elected officials, or pay the final cost for their abysmally poor judgement, when the final bill comes due!
After all the elected officials only pass the costs to the tax payers!
