Will California be the first State to go bankrupt due to so-called “Green Energy”?

in Solar Producer

I understand that California has received approval for more solar energy projects. Of course, such projects come at a price….. paid for by the American taxpayer in the form of subsidies.

In addition, Cali’s Governor recently signed into law what could become a mandate that utility companies be forced to “store” energy to hold in reserve for unreliable energy sources (wind/solar). This is in addition to utility companies being forced to buy ever increasing amounts of the electric generated by wind/solar generators.

Of course, this is going to increase already high electric costs to businesses and consumers in addition to U.S. (and Cali) taxpayers being stiffed for the outrageous MWH subsidies already in place.

Is it just me, or are we taxpayers being screwed again? Do the powers that be in California have any clue as to why businesses are avoiding and abandoning their state like the plague because of… among other things…. high energy costs??

Your thoughts?

An entire State going bankrupt ….. correct me if I’m wrong….. has ‘somewhat’ more impact than an individual or company.
Pegminer….. some good, additional points!
Jeff M…… 90% renewables in your province? That’s great! A lot of hydro?

Wind and Solar are in a different league…. expensive, unreliable and in the case of wind…. unsafe.
Paul’s Alias 2……. Last I read, Silicon Valley unemployment was at 12%. Doesn’t sound too encouraging, does it!

California is already bankrupt and “green energy” isn’t helping.

I agree, California is mostly bankrupt because politicians have been too willing to promise benefits to constituents that pay them millions in reelection bids and lucrative jobs and bennies. The green energy is just another example of throwing money at one of those special interests that help elect the leftists in this idiot state.

The greenies love to preach sustainability but they don’t seem to understand its meaning. Their policies are completely unsustainable economically.

I’ll chime in a third vote for: California already is bankrupt.

A more pertinent question would be, “Will the Federal Gov’t allow California to bankrupt the rest of the nation due to so-called ‘Green Energy’?”

We’ll have an answer to that question in a bit less than 4 weeks.

“What? Nobody ever went bankrupt due to souring fossil fuel prices?”

I know of quite a few oil & gas companies that went bankrupt due to *souring* fossil fuel prices… ;-)

California is insolvent because the citizens are in favor of spending money, but they prevent themselves from being taxed enough to pay for what is being spent. They pass propositions allocating money that is “untouchable” in the state budget and then have to work around all those things, which essentially become entitlements. We spend way too much money putting and keeping people in prison. Things like “three strikes” laws directly benefit prison guards, who are very highly paid in California and have one of the strongest unions.

At the local level municipal governments have consistently made very stupid decisions fiscally and provided pensions which are absurd.

The financial situation has little to do with “green energy.”
