Sometimes the most “green” products aren’t really products at all. For example, I used to buy 100% recycled content paper towels. However, I realized that the more environmentally sound option was to simply use rags, which I don’t even buy– I make them by cutting up all T-shirts and socks that are past their prime.
I ditched shampoo and now use baking soda to wash my hair. I also use vinegar to clean windows, and hydrogen peroxide to whiten clothes instead of bleach. I dry clothes outside (weather permitting), and have a high-efficiency dryer for when I don’t.
When it comes to using “green” products, they are things made from recycled content, or things that are reusable (or both!). For example, our toilet paper is made from 100% post-consumer recycled content. My shopping bags are all made from organic cotton and hemp.
Hope this helps.
