Go for the solar they will always generate electricity even on cloudy days and they are good for the environment. There is probably financing options available where you don’t have to pay out the lump sum.

The solar panels cost the equivalent of paying your electric bill three years in advance. Imagine if your electric company said to you ‘if you pay for three years worth of electric now we will let your have free electric the rest of your life’. They work by storing the power they collect so even on a rainy day you still have power. It may be wise to take out a three/four year loan and use the money you save on the electric bill to pay it off. Then when it’s all paid off you have your own electric supply and an extra $ 300. :)

This may not be what you want to hear, but the best help for you is to cut down on your energy usage. Without installing a single panel, you might be able to cut your electric bill in half.

Second, get an itemized quote from a professional installer for your system, and post the details here for people to review. $ 95000 sounds high today.

Finally, if you have tiered electric rates in your area, look into displacing only a portion of your electricity with solar. You might be able to cut your electric bill to $ 100 with a system that costs only $ 10k or $ 20k. That would pay for itself in 5-10 years, and certainly be worth it.
