The size of the solar panel you use depends upon the voltage and current requirement of your setup Solar panel is made up of diodes that generate an electric current when exposed to sunlight.

You would need to also have a battery and charge controller to make up the difference between the amount of energy needed to run the drill and the amount of power the panel produces. If you are planning to run a drill that uses 500 watts and your panel only is rated for 100 watts the drill would only run very slowly. Even if you did have a drill that was rated equally to the panel any time a cloud went over your drill would stop. By having batteries in the setup you would be saving power for when you had the larger current draw. On most tools there is a plate with the required watts so you know how much power you need to have.
