No such way to make solar cars that can run at night last time i checked and as for electrical cars we need more electricity to charge them but tree huggers are against nuclear and coal plants plush their range is terrible and will never allow large commercial trucking to continue as we know it.

It is all a pipe dream and who has done market research to see who will buy these cars? I would not buy one and I know a lot of people who would not either.

Disadvantage: You don’t hear them sneak up behind you when you’re on a bicycle.

Can’t make solar cars run during the day either, not enough solar energy, as Noel Perrin found out! http://www.amazon.com/dp/0393034070?tag=wolfharper-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=0393034070&adid=0STDMWRZ2PG5BNDR2473&

“Quiet” is not a problem, put a sound chip and speaker just like on toy trains.

The main problem with battery-electrics is stupid consumers who freak out about running out of battery. They think you can’t refill a battery quickly like you can a gas tank. Doesn’t seem to be a problem…http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004RHJW?tag=wolfharper-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B00004RHJW&adid=0Z63YY4BJT3XCZMDPGZB&

Anyway, rent “Who killed the electric car?” Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I5Y8FU?tag=wolfharper-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B000I5Y8FU&adid=085RB90KY4454D131XY7& Netflix http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Who_Killed_the_Electric_Car/70052424?trkid=222336&lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=396171165_0_0
for more about why electrics didn’t work out the last time.

Here’s how it’s going to happen though. Series hybrids like the Chevy Volt will turn out to be a smash hit. The batteries will get bigger and people will notice the gas engine *never* runs, ever. Then they’ll start going “wait, why did I pay $ 5000 extra for a gas engine? I never use it.” And battery electric cars will find their market.

the answer above mine is right.

the only thing i have to add is that you can watch the movie “who killed the electric car” on youtube or google videos for free.

but the chevy volt is crap. it isn’t a true electric car. it does have enough range to be a commuter car, but if you took out the engine, and put more batteries, you’d probably increase your range to 150 miles easily.

and apparantly there are things you can put in a car, with speakers, so it can sound like a gas car. i mean, go play the video games grand truismo or forza motorsport. they’re so realistic, and they match the sound of the engine with the rpm of the engine perfectly in the game. besides, there are sounds of MANY engines. if you can do that in a game, you can obviously do it on a real electric car.

first why do you need sound the world is too noisy anyways. when I’m riding my bike I check the mirror every 20 seconds so why can’t everyone else. second probably 75% of the population drives less than 50 miles a day in their commute so an all electric is perfect for them. A pulse charger can charge a lithium ion battery in 20 minutes, and there not that expensive if you know where to look. I bought a container of 200 LI’s 300AH 24v from Hihon corp in china a few months back for 10k including shipping about $ 50 a piece. I finished converting a 85 dodge Omni for the wife. I just started an 86 Fiero for me, next will be something for my son, daughter, and son-in-law, and I’ll still have enough to do another 20 cars plus replacement batteries. and as already stated solar is fine for a house supplemental system, I have 10kw on the south roof of my house as well as 4 vertical axis wind turbines on my garage roof. but neither will work on a car. Electrics are small and light, they can’t be large trucks but bio diesel is renewable and relatively clean especially if they make up a small percentage of the vehicles on the road.
I’m keeping my gas and diesel cars and trucks I just won’t drive them around town when an electric will do.

Let’s see, do I purchase a brand new $ 30,000 car or run my 12 year old Acura with it’s modest 26 mpg a little longer?

It will take an awfully long time to offset the carbon footprint of building a brand new car, plus the Acura is paid for so the longer I keep it running, the better it is for me and the environment.

pro – cleaner, quiet, it can offer more jobs.

con – most electricity comes from coal and air pollution kills 2 million people each year. nuclear power plants still releases high levels of radiation. I would like to see everyone who dislikes tree huggers to live near a nuclear plant.

nothing is zero emission. the only zero emission appears to be sailing and cycling. it pollutes to make solar panels, wind turbines, wave, hydro power.

solar panels arent large enough to make enough electricity for cars. except if you want a light, slow toy car. however technology is advancing and solar panels are getting smaller and smaller. it would be better to use direct ethanol fuel cells. electric engines are 90% efficient, while internal combustion engines are only 25% efficient. ethanol and fuel cells sounds like a good future. except that people are worried if mass growing of sugar cane could cause starvation. no, there is enough food for everyone. as long as you dont screw up, like mao did when he sent farmers into metal industry, no one should starve. we can still make “agriculture control”.

how many people work on an oil rig on the open sea? not many want to in the first place. “green colar” jobs are available in every city. thats a good pro.
